TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test)
The most common version of TOEFL test. This test is conducted online via computer and is the most common and internationally recognized test format. Providing total score between 0 and 120, with each section scored from 0 to 30.
- Format: Internet-based test, with reading, listening, speaking, and writing components.
- Use: Commonly used for applications to international universities.
- Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours.
TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program)
Is one of the TOEFL tests issued by ETS (Educational Testing Service) and submitted to credible institutions, such as universities or English language courses. This test is more widely used by educational institutions for placement and internal evaluation purposes, for example to measure the English language skills of students or employees.
- Format: Paper-based or computer-based test, with listening, reading, and structure components.
- Use: Commonly used by educational institutions for internal purposes, such as assessing students' English proficiency.
- Duration: Approximately 2-3 hours
TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test)
Is a test that is carried out in paper format and consists of three sections, namely listening, structure and written expression, and reading. This test is conducted in writing using paper and pencil. However this test is rarely used now because TOEFL iBT is the main standard.
- Format: Paper-based test, with listening, reading, and writing components.
- Use: Provided for areas with limited internet access, and not used for applications to international universities.
- Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours.
